形容词、副词有三个等级：原级、比较级和高级

其实，八所名校之外，美国还有许多也非常出色的私立大学，如斯坦福大学、芝加哥大学、纽约大学、杜克大学、麻省理工学院、加州理工学院等等，只是它们并常春藤大学联盟的罢了。有三所文理学院有时也被人们称为小常春藤学校，它们是麻萨诸塞州的阿姆赫斯特学院与威廉姆斯学院和狄克州的威斯理安学院。不过近来威斯理安学院的学生抗议，不同意该校挂小常春藤之名，校方也只好妥协。
