3. 重复

英文一般讲求简洁，因此为表达强调偶尔使用重复可以使语句的强调内容得到突出。英文的重复又根据被重复词语在语句中的位置分为句首重复、句尾重复、首尾重复、尾首重复等。

1) 如“现在是忘掉过去一切的时候了。现在是言归正传的时候了。现在是为未来而奋斗的时候了。”可以这样表达：

Now is the time to forget everything in the past. Now is the time to get down to business. Now is the time to work hard for the future.

（注：此句为句首重复，重复部分为句首的“now is the time to”。)

2) 如“我们渴望成功，而且正在为成功而努力工作。”可以这样表达：

We long for success and we are working hard for success.

(注：此句为句尾重复，重复的部分为句尾的“for success”。)

讲到 idiot-proof 字很有意思, 在美语中大家常常可以听到字后面再加上 proof 来表示「」的意思, 例如手表上面都会写 water-proof, 指水跑不进来, 也防水的意思. 不过我个人的经验, 人会把字的意思理解成正好相反, 例如有一次有人问我, 为报纸的标题写如何充满危机的婚姻? 结果我拿来一看, 原来报上写的是, \"How to get a crisis-proof marriage.\" 其实它的意思应该是, 「如何危机的婚姻」 才对. idiot-proof 指的是白痴的, 而有白痴的, 大家不要搞反了.
